At its July 17 council meeting, Calimesa awarded a contract to Ontario-based CMAX Commercial Maintenance, Inc. to provide citywide street sweeping services, amounting to an annual sum of $42,142.80.
The decision to award the contract comes as the current contract extension with Stanton-based CR&R, Inc., the city’s existing street sweeping provider, is set to conclude on July 31.
While CR&R was not obligated to pay prevailing wages when its initial contract was established in July 2021, more recent developments establish that such services as subject to prevailing wages.
CR&R informed Calimesa of its disinterest to pay prevailing wages to their workers, and the city decided not to renew their contract.
In May the city issued requests for proposals for its street sweeping services, which also encompassed additional services for sweeping priority commercial areas with storm drain catch basins, twice a month. The City received three bids and opted to give a three-year contract to CMAX Commercial Maintenance.
Regarding the fiscal impact, the approved budgets for Fiscal Year 2023-24, including Gas Tax, CFD 2012-1, and CFD 2018-1 budgets, have sufficient funds available to accommodate the cost of these services, alleviating any financial concerns associated with the contract award.
